Please read through the FAQ’s below for more information.
Ohio Exchange FAQs:
What is the date of the exchange?
March 7th- 9th 2025. Games begin at 3pm on the Friday, starting with U8, ending mid afternoon Sunday March 9th.
What EMHA teams can participate?
U8-U18 players are welcome to participate.
How long is the drive?
Kent, Ohio is roughly a 5 ½ hour drive with no stops.
What is “billeting”?
Billeting is when your player is given the opportunity to stay with a hosting Ohio family and their player/child in the same age group. Many Embro families billeted Ohio players last year. The Ohio families visited the home of the Embro family, and the Ohio player stayed overnight and travelled to the games with their Embro family. The billeting program was successful, and many friendships were formed.
Is billeting mandatory?
No, billeting is not mandatory. Your child can be matched with an Ohio family/player but it is up the parents discretion if they want their child to spend the night. Not every Ohio family will sign up to billet as well. Ohio will do their best to accommodate but as always, it’s a first come first serve basis. Many Embro players may want to stay with their billet families from last year, which can be requested once sign up begins.
What is the cost?
EMHA families will be responsible for travel costs. I.e. hotel costs (which are booked and blocked off on Ohio’s end), fuel, meals outside of the exchange itself. There is no cost to participating in the exchange itself as Ohio is the gracious host.
Do we need Insurance?
It is recommended that each family participating have their own travel insurance. Most credit card companies often have insurance tied to the card. It is the responsibility of the participating families to purchase insurance for risk protection and not that of EMHA. Hockey Canada Insurance will cover players on the ice for hockey events.
Do I need a valid passport?
If travelling to the USA by land or sea, in addition to a passport, other proof of citizenship is allowed, such as an original or copy of his or her birth certificate or a Canadian Citizenship Card. Enhanced Driver’s License / Enhanced Identification Card but it is best to be safe and have a valid passport.
How many games will my player play?
Your player will play three games in total (one game per day of the exchange).
Does my EMHA player have to participate?
No, participation is not mandatory. This is a “for fun” hockey weekend.
Are nonplaying siblings welcome?
Siblings are welcome to join their family but will not be allowed to join their sibling in billeting. Last year, most Ohio families kept their nonplaying children back at home as it’s a very busy weekend however siblings are always welcome to join the fun.
How do I register my player?
We are currently working on a registration link for families to sign up their player(s). The link will be located on the EMHA website. www.embrominorhockey.ca
When do I need to decide by?
Due to the extensive planning that goes into the planning of this weekend there will be a cut off of November 1st 2024 for registration.
Any questions or concerns can be directed to your EMHA Ohio convenors.
