EMHA Ohio Exchange 2026

Dear EMHA Families,

Were excited to host the 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE EMBRO OHIO EXCHANGE! The exchange began in 1976 when a hockey team from Ohio was stranded due to a winter storm. Embro families welcomed these players in their home and thus the exchange weekend was formed!

After a brief hiatus, it has been a great success over the last few years. The Embro Ohio Exchange see’s both EMHA and Ohio families coming together to not only enjoy hockey but to also share meals, laughs, stories, comradery, fun and even the building of friendships.

Below will be information regarding the Ohio Exchange this hockey season.

This year Embro will be hosting the exchange and welcoming Ohio Kent Cyclone families and their players for some friendly competition over the border. The date for the exchange will be March 20th-22nd 2026. The Ohio Exchange will still include its “billeting” program as well.

Please read through the FAQ’s below for more information.

Ohio Exchange FAQs:

What is the date of the exchange?

March 20thth- 22nd 2026. Games begin around 3-4pm on the Friday ending mid afternoon Sunday March 22nd.

What EMHA teams can participate?

Second year U7's-U18 players are welcome to participate.

What is “billeting”?

Billeting is when your Embro player is given the opportunity to host an Ohio family and their player/child in the same age group. An Ohio family visits the home of the Embro family, and the Ohio player stays overnight and travels to the games with their Embro family. The billeting program has been successful in previous years, and many friendships have been formed with billets staying in contact.

Is billeting mandatory?

No, billeting is not mandatory. Your child can be matched with an Ohio family/player but it is up your discretion (and those of Ohio) if they want their child to spend the night. Not every Ohio family will sign up to billet their child. Embro will do their best to accommodate but as always, it’s a first come first serve basis. Additionally, many Embro players will want to stay with their billet families from previous years, which can be requested once sign up begins. There is an option to be a “buddy” where Embro players can be matched with an Ohio player without the commitment of hosting the player for the night.

What is the cost?

EMHA families will be responsible for a registration fee of $100.00 per player for the weekend. Being the 50th anniversary we hope to make this a grand event. Thanks to fundraising and the help of families many of these extra costs will be covered. However, to cover ice costs and hall rentals we do ask for families to pay a fee to cover these costs. Please e-transfer your $100.00 to your team manager and they will transfer funds to the treasurer.

How many games will my player play?

Your player will play three games in total (one game per day of the exchange).
